"Error Communicating With Device"
I'm in the middle of reloading my Kobo Auro One LE via Calibre, and just got the following error message while it was in the process of "Sending metadata to device" -
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- calibre, version 4.17.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 90, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 513, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 2019, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 459, in sync_booklists File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 457, in write_prefix File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\metadata\book\json_codec.p y", line 136, in encode_to_file File "json\__init__.py", line 251, in dumps File "json\encoder.py", line 209, in encode MemoryError ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Can anyone translate into plain English what this means and how to fix it? That is an error writing the metadata.calibre file to the device. Calibre uses this to help match the books on the device to the library when you connect.
How many books do you have on the device? Usually it means you have a lot of books. Or, they have a lot of metadata in them. |

Is this an older 32bit OS?
(Because I'd imagine it would take *quite* a bit to make the json module give up the towel with a memory exhaustion error, and a 32bit system would severely exacerbate that fact). |

Have you disconnected and let the device import the books? If not, try that and see if it is OK on the reconnect.
Are you running 64 bit calibre? |

Not sure, where would I find that info? I know it's not the same thing but this is a 32GB Aura One LE.

2. No, running the regular version of calibre. For comparison purposes, I also have an Kindle O3, 32GB version, and use calibre to sideload everything to it. I've never had an issue with calibre not being able to update the metadata.calibre file... |

Update - installed 64bit calibre & reconnected the Aura ONE LE. Calibre was able to get a list of books on the device and send metadata to the device with no issues. Now to continue uploading my remaining books. Will post back if I experience a repeat of the original error.
FWIW, the metadata.calibre file is 32.8MB |
